ANTICIPATED COMPLETION: EARLY NOVEMBER 2018

Hingetown Culture Works is teaming up with Cleveland-based artist Cannaday Chapman to create a large-scale mural on the south-facing wall of the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, beneath Route 2, at W. 28th Street, just off of Detroit Ave.

Chapman has gained international prominence in the creative community through such high-profile artistic commissions as a New Yorker magazine cover and a Google Doodle. He currently works as an in-house illustrator and designer for the American Greetings card company.

In developing his design for the mural, Chapman carefully considered the surrounding environment and existing infrastructure, in order to create a piece that will be in dialogue with its surroundings while also acting as a bold and creative focal point for the neighborhood. In addition to the visual impact the mural will have both up-close and at a distance, a powerful component of this mural is the artist’s reimagining of the Greek goddess, Flora, as an African American woman.
